BENGALI CULTURAL PROGRAMME
Bango Sanskriti Ustav, a three-day cultural festival, was organized at Bishnudas Bhave, Vashi, Navi Mumbai during Aug 20 to Aug 22, 2004. Bengal Foundation, a local cultural organization, was the main the organizer. BECAA, Maharashtra had participated in it as co-organizer for the opening day event. It is BECAA, Maharashtra’s first attempt to hold such professional cultural programme with eminent artists from Kolkata. It was a grand success not just because of Houseful but in view of the feedback received from all corners.
Main programme started with an opening dance by local artists and followed with melodious Rabindra Sangeet and Bangla Gaan by Rama Mondal, Abhirup Guhathakurta, Swagata Laxmi Dasgupta and finally concluded with spellbound Dance drama (Chandalika) by Mamata Sankar Ballet Troup. About eleven hundred spectators, for three and half hours, were just soaked in their culture, which is seldom available here, two thousand kilometer away from Bengal.
BECAA, Maharashtra stepped into this venture for two reasons. Since quite sometime, they were doing some charity by way of awards to the students of local technical institutions and donating technical books to their library. In addition to that, they have now decided to arrange scholarships for BEC students in sustained manner, which needs additional fund. It was one of the steps to raise fund. The other reason was to promote Bengali culture to our younger generation who are practically cut off from it because of their physical location. Such programme will create the awareness and interest to know more about it.
