Lt. Col. A.K.Ghosh (76ETC), Dean, Students Affairs (PICSA) writes twice to GAABESU Emergency Sub-Committee Chairman, Dr. Biman Ghosh,'81MET

"One of our students, Arindam Saha, first year PG  of ETC department is suffering from Kidney failure and likely needs transplantation. Some students of his department met me today and told me that his father is a school teacher and does not have enough  financial strength to meet the entire cost. Presently he is admitted in SSKM hospital under Dr Panday. I have told my students to raise some fund from amongst the students but it will be a great help if GAABESU can do something for Arindam Saha."

In his second letter on March 27, 2009 Lt. Col. A.K.Ghosh writes

"Shri Arindam Saha, 1st Year ETC, Post Graduate Student, is suffering from kidney failures. Presently dialysis is going on twice a week & as per doctor he needs to continue till he is in a state to undergo kidney transplantation.
I met the student yesterday; he has become very weak but still cheerful. I got the details of his fathersí income which is also very low (Rs. 3,000/- P.M). Due to his very bad financial condition, the date of operation can only be fixed after he gets assurance of some fund. Mainly due to financial burden, the student and his parents are passing through a very bad phase. I strongly feel financial assistance by raising money is very  much  necessary. In the mean time, I came to know, his friends have raised approximately Rs.50,000/-  which is not good enough.
In view of above I request GAABESU to kindly coordinate the fund raising drive.  May I , therefore, appeal to you to look into the matter seriously."

Update on May 7, 2009 - New

Dear Biman,
As required by you , I would like to give you the update of Arindam Saha, ( Ist year E.T.C., P.G) .

Initially Arindam was undergoing dialysis twice a week, then once a week and presently once in 14 days. Due to long absence in the class he is not prepared for the forth coming exam. I had a detail discussion with his father and friends. Myself including  some othe faculty members suggested him to drop this year and take a fresh admission so that he is well prepared for the exam next year. Also if he is operated upon this year , one more year Arindam will have to sacrifice due to treatment which will  flout Exam rules. Rightly , he has decided to act accordingly and appear the 1st year exam in 2010. Tentatively, he has planned to undergo transplantation surgery in  July2010.

Whatever, I have mentioned above is based on earlier discussion with him and his friends. Presently he has gone home i.e Cooch Behar. He will be back here on 14th May2009. I will have another interaction with him after 14th  May2009. He is undergoing  dialysis at his home town in a private clinic costing approx 1000/- per sitting. He is so poor that this much amount is also quite pressuring .
