This is the most important news for our Alma Mater in our living memory. I call upon all friends, faculty, stakeholders, and alumni of erstwhile BECollege to come forward and help the new IIEST to close the gap with IITs and the best institutions of the world. I know I will.
Sincerest thanks to all those who played any part in this.

I sent emails to all Members of Rajya Sabha and called three of them for passing the NITSER Bill. But so far nothing has happened. This session is going to end within next four days. Is there any thing we can do ?
Our Delhi based Alumni may help. Please do your best to save BEC.

I am delighted to know about the conversion of BESU to IIEST, Shibpur.I often visit IIT, Roorkee and feel amazed to see its development, especially in PG study, research and consultancy works there.I am also aware about the contributions made by developed institutions in the world in solving intricate problems being faced by the society at large.Let us hope that our Alma mater will rise to similar standard in future.Being a poor country, we should concentrate more on applied research

Thanks to all well wishers of BESU. Very encouraging positive development indeed. IIEST Shibpur will soon get an opportunity for a positive paradigm shift and all of us should give our wholehearted support to VC and the administration.

We understand that there are enough reasons to celebrate now and express thanks. I believe we should step back and review: who are we and what our roles are now. We consider NITSER (IIEST) bill passing in the lower house of Indian Parliament is a significant step due to coming election and life cycle of a bill. However, should we start celebrating? To me it is probably not yet. For those who are engaged and/or following this “marathon” movement, know unless this bill is signed by the Hon’ble President of India, it is not done yet.

Now about us – I think present and past students, present and past faculty, present and past staffs, present and past administration belong to BESU Family. We believe this long movement started as grass-root level and later supported at top created resonance from both top down and bottom up approaches. Everyone at BESU Family deserves pat at his/her back. But the recent struggle has been to convince and win decision makers in the state and at the centre; both in legislative and executive branches. We trust our BESU family members with their persistence effort won these critical sections- legislative and executive branches and we should all thank all members of these legislative and executive branches starting with WB CM, all MPs from WB representing all political parties, President of India, several influential central ministers and a section of media who have become champions for our Alma Mater. We say to all of them - THANK YOU for caring about our Alma Mater. We need their continued patronage to complete the remaining formalities so that our immediate dream becomes reality - BESU Shibpur to IIEST Shibpur. We will require their continuous support to achieve the goals as stated in IIEST bill to regain the past glory of the second oldest engineering college in India to be one of the top in the country.

So, we request to our BESU family is keep constant touch with our legislative and executive branches at state and central govt. Please don’t give up or slow down here and please don’t forget your responsibility while indulging in pre-mature celebration. We are confident that when time will come, we can thank within our own BESU Family. Till then, please thank all others who are helping us!

BESU has crossed a really big hurdle. Next one will come in February/March. We must thank Amitabhada ('62ME) who floated the idea and helped from behind and Santanu Karmakar ('83ME) who did most of the legworks for the first four/five years till he was pulled off. We are grateful to Ms. Banerjee for her help from 2010 when she was Railways Minister till now as Chief Minister and to all MPs for their help. We hope our dream of making BEC, a top engineering school again will be realized soon.

Good achievement !
But the enforcement of integrated ME degree might be discouraging for good students to opt for BE college. Good students normally prefer to do ME in IITs after completing BE from BESU or JU. Hence I feel the integrated ME program is not a good selection.

After long eight years of persuasion, the IIEST bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha. It is a great news for all alumni, students, faculty and all well wishers of BESU. We will have to wait for approval of the Rajya Sabha. We sincerely hope this will be passed in the Rajya Sabha in this session.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our Vice Chancellor Professor Ajoy Ray and Sri Prasanta Kumar Majumdar, MP.

The IIEST bill has crossed one of the most important milestones and this current Lok Sabha session seems very productive for BESU. Let's hope the passage of the Bill takes place in Rajya Sabha either this session or in March ‘14. I thank all concerned Alumni, the Teachers' Association at BESU, MPs of both houses from the state and the Chief Minister of West Bengal for their consolidated effort and persuasion.
